1. Reflect

Review Your Achievements:

Look back at the past year and identify your accomplishments, both big and small. Celebrate your successes and learn from any challenges you faced.

Assess Areas for Improvement:

Identify areas of your life where you'd like to see improvement. This could be related to your career, personal development, relationships, health, or any other aspect of your life.

To design a picture-perfect year, you need goals in different areas of life. Receive instant clarity on what areas of your life need improvement with the Full Focus LifeScore™ Assessment. It’s free.

2. Define Your Values and Priorities

“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up somewhere else.”
-Yogi Berra

Years ago, I remember Charles Hobbs talking about the importance of congruence.  Today, Michael Hyatt and his Full Focus company talk about the “ Double Win - Win at Work and Success in Life”.  Each of us typically have 9-10 life domains.  Some of those domains are about taking care of yourself such as Physical Fitness/Health, Spiritual, Emotional and Intellectual.  Other domains are about relationships such as Parental, Marital and Social. Other domains are about doing such as work, money and hobbies or avocation.

Update/Write Your Eulogy

Your Eulogy can serve as your personal north star.  Donald Miller presents great inspiration when it comes to writing  a eulogy in his book, Here on a Mission.  He provides great guidance to help one search for meaning in their life.  He shares many insights on logotherapy from Victor Frankl, author Man in Search of Meaning.  Being able to identify my meaning in life provided me with my “Why”.

Update/Determine Your Life Domains and Prioritize Them

Michael Hyatt provides great insight on life domains in his book Living Forward with Daniel Harkavy.   Prioritizing my life domains provides great clarity for my journey forward.

Set Goals and Action Plans for each Life Domain

Use the SMARTER framework to provide goals that will motivate you  to accomplish them. SMARTER framework is Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Risky, Timebound, Exciting and Relevant.

3. Set Annual Goals

Reflect on life domain priorities and goals.  Identify 7-8 SMARTER goals for 2024. Develop key motivations, next steps and how you will celebrate goal completion. Celebration is important.

4. Set Quarterly Goals

With an eye toward your 7-8 Annual Goals, set 2-3 SMARTER goals for each quarter. As with your Annual Goals, develop key motivations, next steps and how you will celebrate goal completion. Select high leverage goals for Q1 to help achieve your 7-8 Annual Goals.}

5. Establish Your Rituals and Ideal Week

Help build a rhythm as you pursue your goals by setting up your daily rituals and Ideal Week. Daily Rituals typically include a morning ritual, workday startup, workday shutdown and evening ritual.  The Ideal Week helps you make time for those high leverage tasks to achieve your goals.

6. Track and celebrate

Use a Tracking System: Whether it's a journal, app, or spreadsheet, keep track of your progress. This will help you stay motivated and accountable. We recommend the Full Focus System with its planner alongside digital tools for Project Management and Task Management.

7. Seek Support and Accountability

Share Your Goals:

Share your goals with friends, family, or a mentor. Having a support system can provide motivation and accountability.

Regular Check-Ins:

Schedule regular check-ins with yourself or a trusted person to assess your progress and discuss any challenges.

8. Stay Flexible

Adapt to Change:

Life is unpredictable, and plans may need to be adjusted. Be flexible and willing to adapt to changes in circumstances.

Learn from Setbacks:

If you encounter setbacks, view them as opportunities to learn and grow. Adjust your approach as needed.

Remember, goal setting is an ongoing process, and it's okay to revise your goals as you progress and your priorities evolve. Stay committed, stay positive, and enjoy the journey of personal growth!
